Non-Traditional Thanksgiving Storytimes

During Thanksgiving time, I usually don't do an actual Thanksgiving theme storytime. For the community I served, I felt that there were more toddler friendly themes we can do instead of Thanksgiving as the theme (i.e. Pilgrims and Native Americans). Here are a few themes I do during Thanksgiving time.

Food
Family/Friends
Grateful & Thankful
Turkey
Winter (towards the end of November)

Is it wrong to do a Thanksgiving storytime? In my opinion, I just think that the holiday has a very checkered past. As librarians, it is our job to share information, but with respect to our patrons. Since we work with littles, it's okay to help families explore other topics like food and family. Which is essentially some good elements of Thanksgiving, but the history of Thanksgiving is controversial. I will share links from articles and resources at the bottom of the this post on this topic. Please see future storytime themes coming up!

Just to add, please explore the resources that these list resources have too! There is a plethora of information that we can stay informed. I will continue to update as I find more!
